One of the great built-in features in Mendeley is without a doubt the citation plugin for your word processor of choice. We currently support most of popular word processors such as MS word (Mac and Windows), OpenOffice, Neo Office, and Libre Office. We’re continuously working to improve the efficiency and general user interface of this plugin because we feel it is an important component within Mendeley Desktop and your overall research workflow. That being said, I’d like to touch on a small aspect that many Mendeley citation plugin users are probably unaware of. If you add multiple citations at the same time, the appropriate citation style is used for such situations. For example, if you were citing 3 articles and they were the 3rd, 4th and 5th citations added, they’d probably be added as follows 3-5 (if using a numeric inline citation style format like “Nature Genetics”.). However, if you went in to the document and wanted to add another reference in that bundle, it would show up as 3-5 6. Here is my finished paper and bibliography.Quick solution? Delete the citations and add all four together. You can change the alignment, font, font size, and/or give your bibliography a title. You can format the bibliography like you would any other text. A bibliography, formatted according to the citation style you've selected, will be inserted at your cursor.ġ1. Click on Insert Bibliography, under More, then click Continue.ġ0. Citations to the Esslin and Marrow papers will appear together in the text.Ĩ. Position your cursor at the end of your paper, where you would like to insert a bibliography.ĩ. Once you're all done, click on Insert 2 Citations (the number will change depending on how many citations you're citing at once)ħ. To insert more than one citation in a single spot, search and click the checkboxes for all of the citations you'd like to add. After you've conducted the search, click the checkbox of the resources you'd like to cite (here, I've cited the Esslin paper), and click Insert 1 Citationĥ. A citation to the Esslin paper is now in your paper, where your cursor is located.Ħ. Back on the References menu, search for the reference you'd like to cite using a keyword from the title, the publication year, or an author's name.Ĥ. To insert a citation using Mendeley Cite, first select a style using the Citation Style menu. We'll choose American Psychological Association.ģ. Here is my finished paper and bibliography.ġ. A bibliography, formatted according to the citation style you've selected, will be inserted at your cursor.ġ2. You can then search for the second paper (the Marrow paper for me), then click OK.Ĩ. After you search for the first paper you'd like to cite, text will appear prompting you to search for additional reference. To insert more than one citation in a single spot, follow Steps #2-4 above. A citation to the Esslin paper is now in your paper, where your cursor is located.ħ. After you've conducted the search, highlight the resource you'd like to cite (here, I've cited the Esslin paper) and click OK.Ħ. In the box that pops up, you can search for papers in your Mendeley library using the title, author, or year.ĥ. Place your cursor in the Word document at the point where you'd like to insert the citation, and add a space so your references don't get smushed.Ĥ. We'll choose American Psychological Association.Ģ. To insert a citation using the Mendeley plug-in, first select a style from the dropdown menu by clicking on the arrow.
